New Delhi. Two days after being released from jail, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced his resignation. He has said that he will resign from the post of Delhi Chief Minister on Tuesday, 17 September. It is worth mentioning that he came out of jail on bail two days ago on Friday, 13 September. While granting bail, the Supreme Court has imposed many conditions, after which Delhi’s main opposition party BJP was demanding Kejriwal’s resignation. However, Kejriwal has told all the Chief Ministers of non-BJP ruled states that if the Modi government at the center arrests anyone, then they need not resign.
However, Kejriwal reached the Aam Aadmi Party office on Sunday and announced his resignation in front of the leaders and workers there. He said- BJP has accused me of dishonesty and corruption, now my honesty will be decided in the court of the people. A new CM will be elected in the MLAs’ meeting in two to three days. Kejriwal said- I will not sit on the Chief Minister’s chair until the elections. Manish Sisodia will also not take any post, he also thinks the same. Kejriwal has been the Chief Minister of Delhi since February 2015. Before that he became the Chief Minister for 49 days in December 2013.
On the question of resigning two days later on 17 September, state government minister Atishi later said – Today is Sunday, Monday is Eid holiday. Working day is on 17 September. That is why Arvind has taken two days off. It is worth noting that 17 September is the 74th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will stay in Gujarat for a few hours that morning and then go to Odisha. On the same day, Kejriwal will submit his resignation to the Lieutenant Governor. The election of a new leader can also take place on the same day.
While announcing his resignation, Kejriwal said- the public has to decide whether Kejriwal is honest or dishonest. If the public elects me after the elections, I will take up the post. The party will elect a new Chief Minister in two to three days until the elections are over. It is believed that one of Kejriwal’s ministers can be made the Chief Minister. His wife Sunita Kejriwal’s name is also being discussed. Anyway, Kejriwal arrived at the party office on Sunday with Bhagat Singh’s book ‘Bhagat Singh Ki Jail Diary’ written in jail. He said- The British used to take Bhagat Singh’s letters out. I was in jail, my letter was not delivered to the LG. I was threatened not to do this again.
Kejriwal calling himself a revolutionary said- After Bhagat Singh, after 90-95 years, a revolutionary Chief Minister went to jail in independent India. Three days before 15 August, I had asked LG to let Atishi hoist the tricolor in my place. The letter did not reach LG. He further said- When Lord Ram returned from exile after 14 years, Mother Sita had to undergo Agni Pariksha. Today I will undergo Agni Pariksha. Kejriwal said- I request all non-BJP CMs. If PM sends you to jail, do not resign. We all have to fight together. Government came with majority and Chief Minister resigns. Their formula was failed by Aam Aadmi Party.
