Ottawa. On Sunday, the demonstration by Khalistani extremists near the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton turned violent, in which there were reports of attacks on the devotees of the temple. This incident has been strongly condemned by many leaders including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Trudeau said the violence at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton is unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to freedom and protection of his or her belief. He also thanked Peel police, who responded quickly and ensured the safety of the community. Canadian MP Chandra Arya expressed strong opposition to the incident, calling it a “crossing of the Lakshman Rekha” by Khalistani extremists. He wrote on social media that today Khalistani extremists in Canada have crossed a red line. The attack on Hindu-Canadian devotees inside the temple gives an idea of the seriousness of Khalistani violent extremism. Toronto MP Kevin Vuong also expressed strong opposition, saying that “Canada has now become a safe haven for extremists.
He wrote on social media platform X that the attack on the Hindu-Canadian community is worrying. Our leaders have failed to keep Hindu, Christian and Jewish Canadians safe. We all have the right to pray peacefully. After this attack, Hindu Canadian Foundation shared a video of the incident and said that Khalistani extremists attacked children, women and men in the temple. Similar incidents had come to light last year too, such as anti-India drawings being painted on a Hindu temple in Windsor. Such incidents reflect the growing influence of religious intolerance and fundamentalism. Such attacks have affected India-Canada relations. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had accused India of being involved in the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which India has described as “absurd” and “motivated”.
