Lima. By winning the bronze medal in the women’s 50 meter rifle 3 positions (3P) in the Junior World Championship, Khushi has taken India’s medal count to 15. India now has 10 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals and is on top of the medal table. The youngster scored 447.3 points in the final and finished behind Caroline of Norway, who won the silver medal with 458.3 points. Caroline’s compatriot Sinov Berg won the gold medal with a score of 458.4. Khushi finished seventh in qualification with a score of 585 and secured a place in the finals. The competition was so tough that four other players were also on the same score.

However, Khushi and Italian Anna Schiavone secured the last two qualifying spots on the basis of 29 shots in the inner 10-ring, while two Swiss athletes, Alexa Tella and Emily Jaeggi, managed only 27 shots. Khushi remained ahead of Anna in the countback. In the junior women’s 3P team event, the trio of Sakshi Padekar, Melvina Joel Gladson and Prachi Gaikwad finished fifth with 1757 points. Anushka Thakur also scored 585 points in qualification, but she finished 11th due to 26 hits in the inner-10 ring. Sakshi, Melvina and Prachi stood 24th, 32nd and 41st respectively.
