Why is it auspicious to feed crows during Shraddha… (Pitru Paksha 2024)

1. It is considered a symbol of Yamdoot

In Hinduism, the crow is considered to be the vehicle of Yamdoot and a symbol of Yama. Yamraj is the god of death. It is believed that the souls of the ancestors come to earth during Pitru Paksha and consume food in the form of crows. When we feed food to the crow, it is believed that we are satisfying our ancestors and satisfying their souls.

2. Messenger of the Fathers

According to some beliefs, crows are also considered to be the messengers of ancestors. Therefore, blessings of ancestors are obtained by feeding food to crows during Pitru Paksha.

Lord Rama blessed me

Crow is also believed to be related to Lord Rama. Which is mentioned in a mythological story. According to the story, once a crow pecked at Mother Sita’s leg. This caused a wound on Mother Sita’s leg. Seeing Mother Sita in pain, Lord Rama became angry and he shot an arrow and injured that crow. (Pitru Paksha 2024)

After this, the crow realized his mistake and apologized to Mother Sita and Lord Shri Ram. Lord Shri Ram immediately forgave the crow and blessed him that now the ancestors will attain salvation through you. Since then, this tradition of feeding crows during Pitru Paksha has been going on for centuries.
