Lathi charge on students protesting in Prayagraj

PrayagrajUP Police has lathicharged the students protesting in front of the Prayagraj office of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission i.e. UPPSC. Many students have been injured in the stampede caused by police lathicharge. It is noteworthy that thousands of students had gathered in front of the UPPSC office and were demanding to conduct the examination of Review Officer and Assistant Review Officer i.e. RO and ARO in one day instead of two days and not to standardize the marks.

The police chased away the students by lathicharge but the students went a short distance away from the UPPSC office and sat on dharna and kept raising slogans for a long time. Apart from Uttar Pradesh, about 10 thousand students from many states including Bihar, Madhya Pradesh had gathered to protest. Since the students had given advance notice of the protest, tight security arrangements were made. The police barricaded it about five hundred meters before the commission. The adamant candidates broke the barricades after reaching the Commission. Due to this the situation there went out of control.

The police removed the students from there by lathi charge and all the entry gates of the commission were closed. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said on this matter – When the candidates raised demands to stop rigging in UPPSC, the corrupt BJP government became violent. It is noteworthy that the Commission has scheduled the preliminary examination of PCS on December 7 and 8, while the examination of RO and ARO has been scheduled on December 22 and 23. Both the exams will be held in two days. Students are opposing this.

Students say that by conducting the examination in two days, the Commission is going to do normalization i.e. standardization of marks for the first time. Their demand is that the examination should be conducted on a single day. And the process of standardization should be cancelled. If the exam is held on two days, there are different question papers on both the days and there is a difference in their difficulty level. Therefore, the Commission does standardization to ensure that the students of the shift which has easy paper do not get benefited. But there is a possibility of error in this. That’s why students are opposing it.
