New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldives President Mohammed Muizz held bilateral talks focusing on relations between the two countries at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Monday. Muizzu reached New Delhi on Sunday for a five-day visit to India. Giving information about the meeting in a post on Twitter, the Ministry of External Affairs wrote, “Taking forward the India-Maldives special relationship! Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed Maldives President Muizz upon his arrival at Hyderabad House. There will be a wide-ranging discussion on India-Maldives bilateral relations. Earlier in the day, Mohammad Muizzu was formally welcomed by President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi in the courtyard of Rashtrapati Bhavan. After this, the President of Maldives went to Rajghat and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Muizzu has come to India on the invitation of President Murmu. This is his first official visit to India after assuming office. Earlier on Sunday, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh welcomed Muizzu at Delhi Airport along with a high-level delegation. External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar met Mohammed Muizzu soon after the Maldivian President reached the national capital on Sunday. After his meeting with the President of Maldives, the External Affairs Minister wrote on Twitter, “Pleased to meet President Mohammed Muizzu today. Appreciate his commitment to enhancing India-Maldives relations.

I am confident that his talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow will provide new impetus to our friendly relations. The President of Maldives along with First Lady Sajida Mohammed and a high-level delegation will visit Agra on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the President of Maldives will also visit Mumbai and Bengaluru along with a high-level delegation from his country, where he will attend business events. This visit of Muizzu holds special significance because India-Maldives relations have been full of ups and downs in recent times. However, for some time now, the President of Maldives has been continuously giving such statements which show that he wants to maintain strong relations with India. Ahead of Muizz’s arrival in India, his office said in a statement on Friday, “President Dr. Muizz is committed to enhancing bilateral relations with countries that play an important role in the development and growth of Maldives, so that the country can To ensure a dynamic and active foreign policy.
