Mamata ready to resign

Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee offered to resign on Thursday. She said that she also wants that the young doctor who was raped and murdered in RG Kar Hospital should get justice. Mamata said that she is ready to resign for the people of the state. During a press conference, she apologized to the people of the state and also said that she will not take any action against the striking doctors. She said that they are children and she has forgiven them. It is worth noting that the Supreme Court had said that if the doctors do not return to work by 5 pm on September 11, then the government is free to take action.

However, Mamta Banerjee apologized to the people of the state on Thursday in a press conference for the doctors’ strike and the deadlock with the government, saying that 27 people have lost their lives due to the strike and seven lakh people have not been able to get treatment. Still, she denied taking action against the doctors and said – I will not take any action. They are young, we will forgive them. I want to have a meeting with them with an open mind.

Earlier, when Mamata Banerjee’s government did not agree to broadcast the meeting with the doctors live, the doctors did not meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee sat in front of empty chairs for more than two hours and then got up and came out and held a press conference. The striking doctors also reached the state secretariat Nabanna but the meeting did not take place. The doctors remained adamant that their meeting and talks should be broadcast live.

State Chief Secretary Manoj Pant had called them for a meeting at 5 pm on Thursday. The doctors arrived at 5:30 pm, about half an hour late. Their delegation comprised 30 doctors instead of 15. But the meeting could not begin as the doctors were adamant on their demand for live telecast of the meeting. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee kept waiting for them in the meeting room. Despite the efforts of all senior officials, the doctors did not agree to meet.

The government had already said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would be present in the meeting, but it would not be telecast live. This was the third initiative by the government to hold talks with the doctors in the last three days. The government had accepted the other three demands except the demand for live telecast. As per the doctors’ demand, Mamata Banerjee had reached for the meeting. The meeting was held at Nabanna itself and the 30-member delegation of doctors was also approved.
