Lucknow/Patna. Due to continuous rains and release of water from Nepal, floods have started in many parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Kosi river is once again in spate in Bihar and 12 districts of Mithilanchal and Seemanchal have been affected by floods. More than 1.5 lakh people have been directly affected and about 1.5 thousand people have been evacuated from the floods and taken to safe places. On the other hand, there has been flood due to heavy rain in Nepal and there is news of death of about one hundred people.
It has been raining continuously for two days in 20 cities including Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. Gorakhpur received 153 mm of rain in 24 hours. This happened for the first time in 95 years. In Maharajganj too, the police post has been submerged due to heavy rains. Houses are flooded with water up to three feet. Hundreds of acres of crops have been destroyed. One thousand houses in Sultanpur have been flooded with rain water. A woman has also died due to lightning in Varanasi.
On the other hand, the effect of heavy rain in Nepal is being seen in Bihar. There are flood like situations in 12 districts. More than 1.5 lakh people are affected by the floods. About one and a half thousand people have been saved. They are currently living in a relief camp. Four people have died in Bihar due to lightning in 24 hours. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of rain in a dozen states including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
