Modi's advice on South China Sea

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has touched China’s Achilles heel. In the 19th East Asia Conference, he gave great advice on the South China Sea without naming China. Modi said that the stability of the South China Sea is important for the peace of the entire Indo-Pacific region, hence the disputes related to it should be settled according to international rules and laws. A day before this, on Thursday, India and ASEAN had issued a joint statement, in which also a message was given to China to desist from mischief in the South China Sea.

Before the East Asia Summit, at the India-ASEAN annual conference on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi had also pointed towards China by supporting the geographical sovereignty of the countries of the South East Asian region. After this, in the 19th East Asia Conference on Friday, Modi said regarding the Indian Pacific region and the South China Sea that by making the entire Indian Pacific region legal, the maritime activities here should be decided by the relevant laws of the United Nations.

He also talked about creating a concrete and effective code of conduct in the matter of South China Sea. All ten member countries of ASEAN are also demanding this. However, Prime Minister Modi on Friday participated in the 19th East Asia Summit in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Addressing the meeting, he said- India has always been supporting unity among ASEAN countries. ASEAN is at the center of India’s Indo-Pacific vision and Quad cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi said- The worst impact of various wars going on around the world is falling on the countries of the Global South. In such a situation, it is very important to restore peace in the world. I come from the land of Buddha. We have always said that this is not an era of war. Prime Minister Modi met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken before the start of the East Asia Conference. He expressed grief over those killed in Hurricane Milton.
