Opposition alliance scattered in by-elections

Opposition alliance ‘India’ disintegrated in the by-elections. Barring a few states like Bihar, all the parties in the alliance are contesting their own elections. Think, by-elections are being held on 47 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats in 13 states, which is being considered as a mini general election but there was no coordination among the opposition parties. Assembly elections are also being held simultaneously in two states. There, an alliance has been formed and is working, but if along with this, all the parties fight together in the by-elections, then an impression can be created like in the Lok Sabha elections. But the leaders of the parties did not talk seriously among themselves regarding the by-elections. Now Congress is complaining that Samajwadi Party cheated them in Uttar Pradesh, while other parties in Rajasthan, Assam and West Bengal are complaining that Congress did not pay attention to their demands.

Think, in Uttar Pradesh the Congress party was demanding five seats and now it is not contesting on even a single seat. State Congress leaders say that this is suicidal for the Congress. The harmony that was created during the Lok Sabha elections has been ruined. SP played its game by playing the trick of leaving the losing seats for Congress. Similarly, Congress did not talk to Hanuman Beniwal’s party RLP in Rajasthan. They were asking for two seats. When there was no coordination, it was announced to contest on four seats. Similarly, Bharat Adivasi Party MP Rajkumar Rot also announced to field candidates on two assembly seats. On the other hand, there was an agreement to field a non-Congress candidate on one seat in Assam, but later Congress fielded its candidate there too. There was a possibility of coordination of Congress with Left parties on six seats of West Bengal, but in the end both the parties are fighting separately.
