The past experiences of Samajwadi Party and Congress alliance have not been good. Therefore, more caution will have to be exercised. Because Akhilesh Yadav has so much magnanimity that he can take action against his harsh critics.Buaji” We are also taking goodwill initiatives to improve relations with sister Mayawati. Same policy as Mamata Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar and Lalu Yadav etc. will also have to adopt it. Only then will all these parties be able to strengthen Indian democracy.
After the election results of June 2024, Rahul Gandhi’s graph has increased a lot. Of course, he struggled a lot for this and did perhaps the longest padayatra in the modern history of India. During which he got a good opportunity to know the condition of the countrymen and understand them. The result of all this is that he is adopting an aggressive attitude in Parliament and keeps cornering the government with facts. For the health of any democracy, it is important for both the ruling party and the opposition to be strong. This is how the balance of power is maintained and the accountability of the rulers to the people is possible. Otherwise it does not take long for any democracy to turn into dictatorship.
Today Rahul Gandhi is also the leader of the opposition. This is a very important position under the Indian constitutional system. The government cannot take this lightly. In England, from where we have adopted a large part of our current democracy, the leader of the opposition is seen as a ‘shadow prime minister’. He also has his own parallel cabinet, which keeps a close watch on the policies of the government. This is a good model which Rahul Gandhi should also adopt by taking along capable leaders of his alliance parties. This can be a good initiative to increase mutual cooperation and understanding.
All the allies of the ‘India Alliance’, especially Samajwadi Party’s national president Akhilesh Yadav, have played a very important role in making Rahul Gandhi the leader of the opposition. By winning 37 Lok Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav provided Rahul Gandhi the basis to become the leader of the opposition. Today Samajwadi Party has become the third largest party in India. In such a situation, it is now the moral responsibility of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party to also show the same generosity as Akhilesh Yadav, due to which Congress got the opportunity to win prestigious seats like Rae Bareli and Amethi. Otherwise, Congress had gone far behind in terms of organization and mass base in Uttar Pradesh. Now there are elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, where Congress is in the role of the largest party. There it should take Samajwadi Party along and Samajwadi Party should also contest on some seats in the elections of both the states. Samajwadi Party still had two MLAs in Maharashtra. If it gets two-three MLAs in Haryana also with the support of Congress, then Akhilesh Yadav will get the basis to make his party a national party. This will strengthen the relationship between the two and ‘India Alliance’ will also be strengthened.
It is natural that some big leaders of Congress will be hurt by this relationship. Because the vote bank of Congress and Samajwadi Party is the same in Uttar Pradesh. These leaders will follow the old pattern and keep an eye on the vote base of Samajwadi Party. But such an action will spoil the mutual relations of both the parties and it will be difficult to stay together for a long time. Therefore, every party of ‘India Alliance’ will have to keep in mind that the party which has dominance in the state should take the leadership there, but at the same time keep its allies standing with them.
Especially those parties which have some support base in those states. This will benefit every member party of the alliance. Rahul Gandhi will have to ensure that his allies do not feel neglected in the ‘India Alliance’. After Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav has the biggest stature in the India Alliance. Even the leaders of his opposition parties respect Akhilesh’s decency and generosity. In such a situation, by giving full importance to Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi will strengthen his own foundation.
However, the past experiences of Samajwadi Party and Congress alliance have not been good. Therefore, more caution will have to be exercised. Because Akhilesh Yadav is so magnanimous that he is taking a goodwill initiative to improve relations with his bitter critic “Buaji” sister Mayawati. The same policy will have to be adopted by Mamta Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar and Lalu Yadav etc. Only then will all these parties be able to strengthen Indian democracy.
The same thing applies to BJP as well. By giving the slogan of ‘Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas’, BJP is running NDA alliance with regional parties. But BJP’s history of the last ten years has been that it took the support of small parties in forming the government in the states, and after some time it also worked to break those parties. This makes these parties suspicious about its intentions. In the last two Lok Sabha elections, BJP was able to form the government at the center on its own. But the election results of 2024 forced it to form a coalition government.
But now again the same indications are being received that the BJP leadership is trying to make inroads into Telugu Desam, JDU and Chirag Paswan’s parties. If there is any truth in this news, then it will not be in the interest of BJP. The way the Supreme Court has started to curb the methods of investigation agencies, it seems that the days of getting cooperation by intimidation are over. If the BJP wants to run the government at the center or wants to form governments in the states in the upcoming elections, then it will have to honestly follow the policy of “Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas”.
It is the misfortune of our democracy that winning MPs and MLAs are often bought through bidding. This makes the voter feel cheated and the roots of democracy also weaken. The slogan ‘Aayaram-Gayaram’ became popular after the party-changing in Haryana in 1967. Many political thinkers and social reformers have constantly demanded a ban on this trend. But no party is ready to stop it. Whereas what should happen is that a law should be made by amending the Constitution that when a candidate wins the Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha election, he will have to remain in the same party for the entire term of that Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha on whose election symbol he has won. If he goes to another party, he will have to resign from his membership. Only then will this evil trend be stopped. All parties will have to unite to get this bill passed in their own interest.
