Srinagar. The first session of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly as a Union Territory began on Monday and there was a lot of uproar on the very first day. In fact, Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Wahid Para presented a resolution against the abolition of Article 370 in August 2019. In protest against this, Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs created a ruckus in the House. Some MLAs also reached the well. It is noteworthy that for the first time, BJP is sitting as the main opposition party in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
BJP has 29 MLAs and after the uproar against the motion against the removal of Article 370, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said that he has not yet accepted any such motion. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said- How will the House discuss 370. This decision will not be taken by any one member. The proposal brought today has no importance. If there was any purpose behind this, the PDP MLA would have discussed it with us first.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said- It is foolish to expect BJP to restore Article 370. We knew that a proposal on 370 was going to come. The reality is that the people of Jammu and Kashmir do not accept the Central Government’s decision of August 5, 2019. If he had accepted it, the results would have been different today. However, before the uproar, senior National Conference MLA Abdul Rahim Rather has been selected for the post of Speaker. Protem Speaker Mubarak Gul proposed Rather’s name, which was accepted.
