New Delhi. After medicine, this year’s Nobel Prize for Physics has also been announced. The Nobel Prize in Physics for the year 2024 will be awarded to John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton. John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton will be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for their discoveries enabling machine learning. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced this award in Stockholm on Tuesday.
The Nobel Committee has said in its statement that the scientists who received this year’s Nobel Prize for Physics have used the tools of physics to discover methods considered to be the foundation of machine learning. Hopfield conducted his research at Princeton University and Hinton conducted research at the University of Toronto. Hopfield is a former Harvard professor emeritus of molecular biology at Princeton University and Hinton is a professor emeritus in the computer science department at the University of Toronto.
The special thing about Jeffrey is that he had described the developed form of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, as a threat to humanity. He resigned from Google in 2023 in protest against AI. He had said in an interview given to ‘New York Times’ – A large number of jobs will be lost due to AI. Misinformation will spread rapidly in the society, which will not be possible to stop. Jeffrey had expressed regret considering himself responsible for AI.
