New Delhi. Amid Israeli air strikes, there is news that a police convoy has been attacked in a disturbed area inside Iran, in which at least 10 officers have been killed. The attack took place on Saturday in Iran’s restive southern province of Sistan and Baluchistan. According to reports, the attack took place in Gohar Kuh, about 1200 kilometers south-east of Iran’s capital Tehran. Initially it was considered a minor attack but later Iran’s state media reported that 10 officers had been killed.
Halwash, a group advocating for the Baloch people of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan, posted photos and video of a truck painted with the green stripe used on Iranian police vehicles. A photo shared by the group showed the bodies of two police officers in the front seat of a truck. Halwash said the attack targeted two security forces vehicles and killed all occupants.
Iran’s state news agency said the country’s Interior Minister Iskander Momeni has ordered an investigation into the incident. No suspect involved in the attack on police vehicles has been identified, nor has any group claimed responsibility. The attack came after a major attack by Israel in Iran on Saturday morning. It is noteworthy that Baloch nationalists have been insurgent in the Baloch areas of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran for more than two decades.
