Kolkata. The case of death of a 10 year old girl in Kripakhali area of South 24 Parganas of West Bengal is gaining momentum. A hearing on this matter was held in the High Court on Sunday and the court has ordered re-postmortem. Earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered to register a case under the POCSO Act. Referring to this case, Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said that media trial in rape cases should be stopped.
However, the parents of the 10-year-old girl had filed a petition in the High Court, hearing which Justice Tirthankar Ghosh directed for a second postmortem of the girl’s body. The court said in the instructions – Post-mortem should be conducted at AIIMS, Kalyani on Monday in the presence of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and Judicial Magistrate of Baruipur Court.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Mamata demanded to register a case under POCSO Act and give death penalty to the culprits within three months. Also said that crime has no colour, caste or religion. Media trial of rape case should be stopped. It is noteworthy that the body of the girl was recovered by the local people on October 5 in Kultali police station area of Kripakhali area of Jaynagar. She was a fourth class student. The family has accused the girl of murder after rape. In protest against the incident, the mob set fire to the Mahismari police post and pelted stones at the policemen.
