New York. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a bilateral meeting in New York that India stands ready to provide all possible assistance to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the UN summit and discussed the situation in Ukraine as well as the way forward on the path of peace. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), during the meeting, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s “clear, consistent and constructive” approach in favour of a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine through diplomacy and dialogue as well as engagement between all stakeholders. “Met President Zelensky in New York. We are committed to implementing the strong bilateral ties that we emphasized during my visit to Ukraine last month,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post after the meeting.
Reiterated India’s support for an early resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and restoration of peace and stability. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the two leaders recalled the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Ukraine and expressed satisfaction at the continued strengthening of bilateral relations. This was the third meeting between the two leaders in less than three months. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the two leaders agreed to remain in touch. Prime Minister Modi visited Ukraine in August at the invitation of President Zelensky. The visit was important as it was the first time an Indian Prime Minister visited Ukraine since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1992. During the visit, the Prime Minister made it clear that India, often described as neutral in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, has always strongly sided with peace.
