Thiruvananthapuram. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached Wayanad for the third time on Monday to campaign for his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. He described himself as the unofficial MP of Wayanad. He came to campaign wearing a T-shirt with ‘I Love Wayanad’ written on it, which he showed to the people at the rally. He appealed for the victory of Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is contesting the elections for the first time, and said that if she becomes MP, she will work to convert Wayanad into a big tourist destination.
Rahul said that the people of Wayanad showed him so much affection that his entire outlook on politics changed. After coming here, he started using the word love in politics. He said- To express my gratitude towards the love I have received from you, I am wearing ‘I Love Wayanad’ t-shirt. It is noteworthy that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi won from Wayanad for the second time but he also won from Rae Bareli. After choosing Rae Bareli seat, he resigned from Wayanad seat. Congress has made Priyanka its candidate on the seat vacant due to her resignation.
This is Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s first Lok Sabha election. He is contesting against CPI’s Satyan Mokeri and BJP’s Navya Haridas. There are elections in Wayanad on 13 November. The results will come on 23 November. However, Rahul Gandhi said in Monday’s rally – Wayanad has completely changed my thinking towards politics and work in five years. When I came here, my relationship with the people here was different.
Rahul said- I started politics in 2004 and became MP of Wayanad in 2019. In my 15 years of politics, I had never used the word love. But after coming to Wayanad, love entered my political dictionary. Rahul said that when I did the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, the main idea of that trip was to use love and affection as a political tool. This means that if someone is abusing you, hating you or trying to hurt you, you don’t respond in the same way. This is what I learned from the people of Wayanad.
