New Delhi. There was once again an uproar in the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) formed to consider the Waqf Board Bill. In the meeting held on Monday, MPs from opposition parties created a ruckus and left the meeting midway. It is being told that at the time when the presentation of Delhi Waqf Board was going on in the JPC meeting, many opposition members walked out of the meeting in protest. Joint Parliamentary Committee Chairman and BJP MP Jagdambika Pal was presiding over the meeting.
However, after some time the opposition MPs again attended the meeting. Opposition members claimed that the Delhi Waqf Board administrator had made some changes in the presentation without the knowledge of the Delhi government. In protest against this, Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh, DMK MP Mohammad Abdullah, Congress’s Nasir Hussain and Mohammad Javed walked out of the meeting. Opposition members alleged that MCD Commissioner and Delhi Waqf Board Administrator Ashwini Kumar completely changed the initial report of the Waqf Board without the approval of the Chief Minister.
In this meeting on Monday, JPC had called representatives of Delhi Waqf Board, Haryana Waqf Board, Punjab Waqf Board and Uttarakhand Waqf Board to record their oral evidence on the Waqf Amendment Bill. The committee had called Call for Justice, Waqf Tenant Welfare Association, Delhi and Harbans Dunkel, Residents Welfare Association to share their views. The committee meeting will also be held on Tuesday i.e. 29th October. In this meeting, the committee will record oral evidence of representatives of the Ministry of Minority Affairs on the Waqf Amendment Bill.
It is noteworthy that earlier a meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee was held on 22 October. During this, a heated argument took place between BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay and Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee. During the debate, Kalyan Banerjee broke a glass bottle and threw it towards panel chairman Jagdambika Pal. Only Kalyan Banerjee was injured in this incident. Later, he was also banned for one day.
