Serious threat to women's safety in Madhya Pradesh: Kamal Nath

Bhopal. Expressing concern over the incidents of abuse of women and girls in Madhya Pradesh, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath has attacked the state government. They allege that there is a serious threat to the safety of women in the state. Referring to the recent incidents in the state, former Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that the state is day by day becoming an unsafe state for women and girls. The manner in which cases of rape and gang rape of girls and women have come to light in the last two months has created a very serious threat to women’s safety. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that according to the 2023 report of the National Crime Records Bureau, Madhya Pradesh is third in the country in terms of rape of women. 3,029 cases of rape were registered in Madhya Pradesh during this period. Apart from this, 3,049 women became victims of molestation and 1445 women became victims of physical abuse. 5,951 cases of POCSO-related crimes were registered in the state, out of which 3,641 were rape cases. If we look at the rapes of women and minors, 18 rapes are taking place every day in the state. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that how insensitive the Bharatiya Janata Party government is towards women’s rights can be understood from the fact that the post of Chairperson in the State Women’s Commission has been lying vacant for the last four years.

Complaints are piling up in the Women Commission but there is no responsible person there to hear them. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath raised questions on the working style of the BJP government and said that the safety of women and girls should be the top priority of any state government. But in Madhya Pradesh it seems that first in the government of Shivraj Singh Chauhan and now in the government of Dr. Mohan Yadav, daughters continue to remain unsafe. When women’s safety issues are brought before the government, instead of taking action on it, BJP leaders focus more on sophistry. Referring to the recent incidents, former Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that the state bows its head in shame due to the incidents of atrocities on women. The Chief Minister of the state, Dr. Mohan Yadav himself is the Home Minister, he should take strict action in this matter and such an environment of law and order should be created in the state that criminals are afraid of taking such steps.
