Kanpur. Bangladesh’s famous all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has announced his retirement from T20. The match against Afghanistan during the T20 World Cup held in June this year was his last T20 International match. Along with this, the test match between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur can be his last test match. However, Shakib wants that if adequate security arrangements are made for him in Bangladesh so that he can retire from home after the Test series to be played against South Africa in Bangladesh. However, looking at the internal atmosphere of Bangladesh, there are clouds of crisis on the South Africa series as well. Regarding the ODI format, he says that he will also retire from ODI after playing the Champions Trophy. In the press conference held before the Kanpur Test, Shakib said, “I am available for the South Africa series, but a lot is happening there in our country. So a lot does not depend on me. I have discussed my future in Test cricket with the BCB.
This could be my last Test. Yes, if the opportunity arises, I would like to play my last Test in Mirpur. The board is also trying its best to ensure that I can play there and stay safe. Apart from this, I can also leave the country if needed. Shakib was not in Bangladesh since the violence and protests in Bangladesh in early August. Shakib’s name was also included among the 147 people involved in a murder case in Dhaka last month. However, when Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister after protests across the country on August 5, Shakib was playing the Global T20 League in Canada. After this, he went to Pakistan to play a Test series and later played county cricket for Surrey. Currently he is in India to play a Test series against India. Bangladesh’s next Test series is against South Africa in October, which will be their home series. Shakib has played 70 Test matches so far, in which he has 4600 runs and 242 wickets to his name. He is currently considered one of the best all-rounders in the world.
A few days ago, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had given a statement regarding Shakib’s security that Shakib will not face any problem on returning to Bangladesh. Shahriar Nafees, associated with BCB’s cricket operations, said on Monday that the country’s government has confirmed that Shakib will not be harassed. Nafees said, “I think the respected chief advisor, legal advisor and sports advisor have said everything clearly about Shakib. There is a clear message from the Bangladesh government that no one will be harassed unfairly in whatever cases have been filed. We believe that the interim government has made its opinion clear on Shakib. As long as there is no injury problem or selection problem, I personally feel that there is no reason why Shakib Al Hasan should not play the domestic series in Bangladesh.
