Lucknow. Shardul Thakur, who played a key role in taking Mumbai’s innings forward in the ongoing Irani Cup against Rest of India at the BRSAVB Stadium, has been discharged from the hospital. He was admitted to Medanta on Wednesday due to viral infection. Thakur was saved to bat late due to his illness, but was called on to bat after Mohit Awasthi was out late on the second day. As the innings progressed, Thakur’s health deteriorated and he was taken to hospital after the end of the day’s play. Despite battling fever, Thakur came out to bat at number 10 and made an important contribution of 36 runs off 59 balls in hot and humid conditions.
He was seen batting in the extreme heat in Lucknow with a towel wrapped around his head. His partnership with Sarfaraz Khan helped him score a historic double century before stumps. Medical reports have ruled out any serious illness. However, it is unlikely that he will take the field during Rest of India’s first innings. The fast bowler, who plays an important role in India’s domestic and international setup, can join the team in the dressing room if his recovery is good.
