Whose child is Nandi: Nandi is considered to be the most favorite part of Lord Shiva. It is believed that where Lord Shiva is, his vehicle Nandi is also there.
There is also a special belief that if you have any wish, then whisper it into Nandi ji’s ears, and it definitely reaches Lord Shiva. Therefore, in every Shivalaya, Nandi in the form of a bull is placed in front of the idol of Bholenath.

Who is Nandi?
Nandi is said to be the gatekeeper of Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva. He is not only the vehicle of Lord Shiva, but is also considered his most beloved devotee. Nandi is considered a symbol of strength, prosperity and hard work, presenting an ideal example of dedication and loyalty.
According to the story, in ancient times there was a sage named Shilad who, after doing rigorous penance, got the boon of Nandi in the form of a son from Lord Shiva. After that sage Shilad gave the knowledge of all Vedas and Puranas to Nandi.
According to the legend, once two saints came to the ashram of sage Shilad, and on the orders of their father, Nandi ji served them well. When those saints were about to depart, they blessed sage Shilad for long life, but did not say anything for Nandi.
Seeing this, Rishi Shilad asked those ascetics the reason for this. Then he told that Nandi is short lived. Hearing this, sage Shilad became worried for his son. Then Nandi explained to him and said, “Father, you have found me by the grace of Lord Shiva, and he will protect me.”
After this, Nandi performed severe penance for the sake of Lord Shankar. Pleased with his penance, Lord Shiva appeared and made Nandi his vehicle.
Why does Nandi face Shiva?
Nandi ji sits in front of Lord Shiva in Shiva temples around the world. Nandi ji is sitting everywhere facing Lord Shiva. This posture of Nandi ji is a symbol of his unwavering attention and devotion towards Bholenath. Their attention remains focused only on their worshipper.
According to religious belief, people whisper their wishes into Nandi ji’s ears because Lord Shiva is often engrossed in penance. In such a situation, Nandi listens to the wishes of the devotees and after the completion of the penance, Lord Shiva tells him the wishes of the devotees.
