New Delhi. Social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who reached Delhi on foot march demanding full statehood for Ladakh and saving the environment of Ladakh, has been detained by Delhi Police. After being detained, Wangchuk started an indefinite fast at Delhi’s Bawana police station on Tuesday. Sonam Wangchuk reached Delhi late on Monday night with a group of 120 people. All the people were stopped at Singhu border and later everyone was taken into custody. He had to go to Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary on October 2.
Police have told that Sonam Wangchuk wanted to spend the night on the Delhi border. Section 163 is in force in Delhi till October 5. The marchers were asked to go back and when they did not agree, they were detained. The matter of detaining Wangchuk reached Delhi High Court on Tuesday. A petition has appealed to order the release of Sonam Wangchuk and others. The court has agreed to hear the case on October 3. A bench led by Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela had asked the petitioner to file all the necessary documents by 3:30 pm on Tuesday.
