South Africa's troubles increase, injured Nandre Berger out of two important series

New Delhi. South Africa fast bowler Nandre Burger has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the ongoing ODI series against Ireland and the upcoming Test tour of Bangladesh due to injury. Cricket South Africa (CSA) said in a statement that 29-year-old fast bowler Nandre Burger felt discomfort in his lower back and scans later revealed that he had suffered an injury. He will return home and undergo further medical examination. His replacement for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh will be announced soon.

Berger made his international debut in December 2023 against India in all three formats in a span of 12 days, where he impressed everyone with his pace and swing. So far, he has taken 14 wickets in three Tests, 6 wickets in five ODIs and 1 wicket in two T20s. After being the top bowler in the CSA One-Day Challenge, Berger was signed by Rajasthan Royals for the 2024 IPL season. During this period, he took seven wickets in six matches and his performance was fine. He was named as a reserve player in South Africa’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. After completing the ODI series against Ireland, South Africa will travel to Bangladesh to play the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka from October 21-25.

After this, both the teams will go to Zahoor Ahmed Chaudhary Stadium in Chittagong for the second Test to be held from October 29 to November 2. Berger, who also played tennis and squash in his childhood and youth days before playing cricket, also played for Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA. In his last few international matches, he has played one Test and one T20 match in the West Indies, as well as two ODIs against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
