Bhubaneswar/Kolkata. Due to the precautionary steps taken by the governments of Odisha and West Bengal, there has been no major loss of life and property due to cyclonic storm Dana. Storm Dana, which arose from the Bay of Bengal, hit the coast of Odisha after midnight on Thursday. At that time the wind speed was 110 kilometers per hour. The process of hitting the beach lasted for five to six hours. On Friday morning the wind speed reduced to 10 kilometers per hour. There is news of death of one person in West Bengal due to this storm.
Due to the impact of cyclonic storm Dana, it rained throughout the day on Friday in Odisha and West Bengal. Highest rainfall is expected in Bhadrak and Kendrapara. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Friday that 5.84 lakh people have been shifted to relief camps. Due to the storm, trees were uprooted in many areas and vehicles were also damaged. On the other hand, one person died in West Bengal.
After the speed of the storm slowed down, flight operations started at Kolkata and Bhubaneswar airports. The first flight from Kolkata left at 8.40 am. Railways also said that except the canceled trains, the rest of the trains going to Odisha and West Bengal will run as per their schedule. It is noteworthy that 300 flights were canceled at Bhubaneswar and Kolkata airports from 5 pm on Thursday to 8 am on Friday. Apart from this, around five hundred and fifty trains were also cancelled. Apart from Odisha, the impact of the storm was also seen in West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu.
