Khartoum. At least 31 people were killed in an air strike targeting a mosque in Wad Madani, the capital of Sudan’s Gezira state. The Wad Madani Resistance Committee said in a statement that after evening prayers, warplanes bombed the Sheikh al-Jeli mosque and its surrounding areas in the al-Imtidad area with explosives. The committee said 15 dead had been identified, while dozens of unidentified bodies were still being counted.
Till now no comment has come from any side on this incident. It is noteworthy that after the withdrawal of Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) from Wad Madani, the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) took control of Gezira state in December 2023. Sudan has been ravaged by deadly conflict between the SAF and the RSF since mid-April 2023. According to a recently published report, more than 24,850 people have died due to this conflict.
