New Delhi. After much reluctance, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have decided to form an alliance. Although it has not been officially announced yet, informed sources say that the two parties have reached an agreement on seat sharing. The alliance can be announced through a joint press conference on Monday, August 9. It is being said that before leaving for the US, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had given the green signal for coordination to organization general secretary KC Venugopal.
It is being told that in the alliance, Congress has decided to leave five seats for Aam Aadmi Party. Earlier AAP had demanded 10 seats and Congress had proposed to give three seats. Congress in-charge Deepak Babaria and AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha had a meeting late on Saturday night to discuss seat sharing. According to informed sources of Congress, Congress has given AAP a formula of four and one seat.
This formula means that Sushil Gupta, who fought the Lok Sabha elections under the Congress and AAP alliance, had gained a lead in four assembly seats. So, Congress will give four seats as per that formula and one additional seat. It is being told that both the parties have reached an agreement on five seats of Jind, Kalayat, Panipat (rural), Gurugram and Pehowa.
According to AAP sources, AAP state president and former Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta may contest from Jind. State senior vice president Anurag Dhanda may get ticket from Kalayat and former minister Balveer Saini from Pehowa. No face has emerged from Panipat (rural) and Gurugram yet. Meanwhile, on the possibilities of alliance, AAP MP Raghav Chadha said – We have been saying that both the parties are discussing in a good atmosphere. Both the parties intend to form an alliance by keeping their interests aside for the welfare of the people of Haryana. He said in a poetic style that there is aarzoo bhi hai, hasrat bhi hai aur ummeed bhi hai. Congress in-charge Deepak Babaria said that AAP has agreed to the alliance on fewer seats than the number of seats it had demanded. However, he did not reveal the number of seats.
