The issue of Ranchi and Karachi has once again been raised in Jharkhand. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav attacked Congress and JMM during the election campaign, saying that both the parties have changed the capital Ranchi to Karachi. It means to say that Congress and JMM have filled the Muslim population in Ranchi. It is being said for the entire Jharkhand that Himanta Biswa Sarma remains the champion of this narrative. This is also being said about Maharashtra and especially Mumbai. Although it was not said in that manner that Mumbai does not rhyme with Karachi, BJP’s Kirit Somaiya said in a press conference that by 2050, only 54 percent Hindus will be left in Mumbai.
However, the slogan of Ranchi and Karachi has not been given for the first time in Jharkhand. Leaders of BJP’s predecessor Bharatiya Jan Sangh also used to give such slogans in Jharkhand elections. In one election the slogan was, ‘This time win from Ranchi, next election from Karachi’. That means Pakistan will be captured. However, this slogan did not have any significant impact. Now BJP leaders are presenting this slogan in a new form. This time BJP is contesting the elections on the narrative of changing the population structure of the state. There is talk of getting rid of Muslim leaders by taking names. In such a situation, the alliteration of Ranchi and Karachi is becoming correct.
