The meat that caused the murder turned out not to be beef

Chandigarh. In Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri, alleged cow vigilantes had killed a young man on suspicion of beef and now it has come to light that it was not beef. The incident took place on August 27, when Sabir Malik, a Muslim youth, was murdered on suspicion of possessing and eating beef in Badhra town of Charkhi Dadri district. The lab report showed that it was not beef. Sabir was a resident of West Bengal. Police have arrested 10 accused including two minors in this case.

The arrested people are accused of calling Sabir on the pretext of giving him scrap and beating him to death. The matter came to light when a video of the assault went viral on August 31. It was revealed that the accused had beaten two youths including Sabir with sticks. During interrogation, the accused had claimed that Sabir and his companions eat beef. These accused associated with Hindu organizations had also said that beef was found in their utensils.

The police seized this meat and sent its samples for testing. Badhra’s DSP Bharat Bhushan said – Meat samples were sent to the lab in Faridabad for testing. We have received his report from there. This was not prohibited meat. We have arrested 10 accused. Will present the challan in the court soon. The lab report will also be submitted to the court along with the challan. Six accused in this case are yet to be arrested.
