New Delhi. Supreme Court has given big relief to Ajit Pawar. Before the assembly elections to be held on 20th next month, on Thursday, 24 October, the Supreme Court gave an interim verdict in the election symbol case. The court said that the Nationalist Congress Party or NCP of Ajit Pawar faction can use the clock election symbol in the upcoming assembly elections. However, the court also said that it will have to write in the election banners and posters that this is a matter of dispute and is under consideration in the court.
The Supreme Court heard the petition filed by the Sharad Pawar faction, in which it was said that the Ajit Pawar faction is not following the court’s order, hence it should be stopped from using the clock election symbol in the assembly elections. Besides, an appeal was also made in the petition to direct the Ajit Pawar faction to apply to the Election Commission to get a new election symbol. It is noteworthy that the court had earlier also directed the Ajit Pawar faction to write on their banners and posters that the clock election symbol is disputed and its matter is pending in the Supreme Court.
The bench of Justice Surya Kant, Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan directed Ajit Pawar’s lawyer to file a new affidavit. Also warned that if the order was violated, she herself would initiate a contempt case. The next hearing of the case will be on November 6. Justice Surya Kant told Ajit Pawar’s lawyer Balveer Singh – Once we have issued the instructions, it will have to be followed. You file a reply and give a fresh affidavit that you have not committed any violation in the past and will not commit any violation in future also. We expect both parties to follow our instructions. Don’t create an embarrassing situation for yourself.
