New Delhi. Donald Trump has won the presidential election held in America on Tuesday. Republican Party’s Donald Trump defeated Democratic Party candidate Kamala Devi Harris. In America, for the post of President, it is necessary to get 270 votes of the Electoral College. By late evening, Trump has achieved the required majority by securing 277 votes. Counting was still going on in some states, but even there Trump maintained his lead. Till the time of writing the news, Kamala Harris had got 224 seats.
Before the voting, the contest was being said to be close but the result turned out to be one-sided. According to the American electoral system, the President is not elected by popular vote. 538 representatives of the Electoral College are elected by the votes of the people of the country’s 50 states and the District of Columbia. There is such a system in America that whoever gets more popular votes will get all the votes in the Electoral College of that state. The votes of different states are fixed according to their population and size. Trump won 538 to 277 votes even before the counting was completed.
With this victory, Donald Trump made history. He became President for the first time in 2016 and lost to Joe Biden in 2020. With victory this time, Trump is the first politician after the Second World War to become President again after a gap of four years. Also, Trump is the first leader in American history to defeat female candidates twice in the presidential elections. In America, this happened only twice in 2016 and 2024, when a woman became the presidential candidate. Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016.
This time’s presidential election in America was already considered to be a close contest. The entire responsibility was on the seven battleground states, where the balance could swing somehow. In other states the results were already decided and the results came accordingly. But results were contrary to everyone’s expectations in seven battleground states. Trump has won or maintained a lead in all seven states. In the last election, Trump lost in six battleground or swing states. This time he won in all the swing states along with the Republican influenced states. He received majorities in Wisconsin, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada, Arizona and North Carolina. Trump won the last election only in North Carolina. All 93 seats in these states went to Trump’s account.
It is noteworthy that the Democratic Party had first nominated President Joe Biden as its candidate. But due to increasing age and health, he backed out and his party made Vice President Kamala Harris its candidate. Initially, Kamala Harris had an edge over Trump but as the elections progressed, her lead reduced. Meanwhile, Trump was attacked at a rally, in which the bullet missed his ear. After that his popularity started increasing. The world’s richest businessman Elon Musk was supporting him in the elections.
