Srinagar. Two CRPF jawans and two policemen were injured in the ongoing exchange of fire between hidden terrorists and security forces in Srinagar on Saturday. Officials said that after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Khanyar area. An official said as the security forces approached the hiding terrorists, they started firing on the security forces. After this the encounter started which is still going on. The encounter took place in the heart of Srinagar city after more than 10 years.
This area was once a center of separatist sentiments and terrorists roamed freely in this area. Gradually the security forces succeeded in eliminating terrorism from these areas. It was believed that terrorism had been eliminated from Srinagar city, and especially the lower areas of the city. However, this belief has been shaken by the ongoing firing in Khanyar area. In another ongoing operation, two terrorists were killed by security forces near Halkan Gali in Shangas-Larnu area of Anantnag district. On Friday, terrorists shot and injured two non-local laborers, Sanjay and Usman, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, in Mazhama village of Magam area of Budgam district. Both the injured were immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors declared their condition stable.
Last month, terrorists had killed six non-local employees of an infrastructure project company and a local doctor in Gagangir area of Ganderbal district. The workers were working on a tunnel project from Gagangir to Sonamarg tourist spot, once completed the Srinagar-Sonamarg road will be open in all weather conditions and will generate economic development and employment in the area. After this, in another incident, terrorists killed three army personnel and two non-army porters in Buta Pathri area of Gulmarg in Baramulla district.
