Kolkata. The controversy over the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital was still going on when the body of a 10-year-old girl was found in South 24 Parganas on Saturday morning. The family has claimed that the girl was murdered after raping her. Due to this incident, there is tension in the entire district and a mob of angry people has vandalized and set fire to the police post.
This incident took place in Kultali police station area of Kripakhali area. Local people say that the girl was missing since the evening of October 4, but the police delayed taking action. In protest against the incident, people surrounded Mahismari police post and attacked the police with sticks and stones. People also vandalized the police post and finally set it on fire. Seeing the anger of the people, the policemen left the post and ran away.
People also tried to take hostage the SDPO and other policemen at the spot. After this, heavy police force was sent to the area. Police released tear gas shells to control the crowd. Kultali’s Trinamool Congress MLA Ganesh Mandal went to the spot to pacify the villagers, but people chased him away too. Mandal later told the media that he understood the anger of the people, but they should not take the law into their hands. Local people say that after the girl went missing on October 4, the family had lodged an FIR at Mahismari post. However, the police did not take this complaint seriously and did not take action. Because of this people have decided to continue the protest.
