The victory of Bharatiya Janata Party in Haryana is surprising to everyone. This is a surprising development even for the state’s acting Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini as he had accepted defeat around 9.30 am. On the morning of Tuesday, October 8, when the Congress party was leading on more than 60 seats, Naib Singh Saini had given a statement that if BJP loses, it will be his responsibility. He had accepted the possibility of victory as lost and so that the responsibility of defeat does not fall on the top leadership of the party i.e. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he had put himself forward. But after 10 o’clock the situation started changing and by 12 o’clock it became clear that BJP is going to form the government with a bigger majority than in 2014. BJP has not only increased its seats, but its vote percentage has also increased surprisingly.
Bharatiya Janata Party itself had contested elections on 89 seats and supported Gopal Kanda of Haryana Lokhit Congress on one seat of Sirsa. But in reality, Haryana was not contesting the elections with just 90 candidates, but with 120 candidates on 90 seats. It is being told that on about 30 seats, candidates from strong independents and other small parties also had the support of BJP. According to informed sources, under its policy of micro management, BJP at some places helped strong independent candidates and at other places it helped INLD and BSP candidates. At many places, there is talk of providing help to the candidates of Jannayak Janta Party and Azad Samaj Party.
BJP has got the benefit of this micro management on many seats. For example, the closely contested seat of Mahendragarh can be seen, where an independent candidate got 18 thousand votes. There, Indian National Lok Dal also got three and a half thousand votes, while Aam Aadmi Party and another independent together got three thousand votes, while the difference of victory and defeat was less than five thousand votes. Similarly, in Bhiwani, Aam Aadmi Party stood at third place, whose candidate got 14 thousand votes, but after that, independents stood at fourth, fifth and sixth place, who got 15 thousand votes. In Ballabhgarh seat, independents remained at second and third place.
In Asand seat, BSP got 10,000 votes and the fourth-placed independent got 8,000 votes, while Congress lost by 3,000 votes. In Gohana, two independents lost 13 thousand votes and Congress lost by the same number of votes. The number of such seats is more than a dozen, where independent candidates have spoiled the mathematics of Congress. The state election was a face-off between BJP and Congress and it seemed that it would be a bipolar election. Despite this, independent candidates got 11 percent votes. Independent candidates have got twice as many votes as the established parties of the state, Indian National Lok Dal, Jannayak Janata Party, BSP, Azad Samaj Party and Aam Aadmi Party combined. This is amazing micro management of BJP.
