What does Congress leader Rahul Gandhi do all the time? This is a Yaksha question. Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister. He looks after the functioning of the government, about which his supporters have spread that he works 18 hours a day. No matter how many hours they work, they do politics in whatever time is left after government work. Hold meetings with party leaders, tour states and campaign. But what does Rahul Gandhi do? He does not have to run the government and as the leader of the opposition, his work is only when the Parliament session is going on and everyone knows how many days the Parliament session lasts these days. It is not that in the last five months after becoming the Leader of Opposition, he has made a record of participating in the proceedings of Parliament.
As the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, a responsible job is that of the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee i.e. PAC. But Rahul Gandhi does not have time even for that, so he made his close MP and Congress Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. Think how busy they are that they don’t even have time to fulfill their ex-officio responsibility as Leader of Opposition, whereas Adhir Ranjan Choudhary in the last Lok Sabha and Mallikarjun Kharge in the previous Lok Sabha had played this role. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha gets a place in the committees that appoint many important posts, including the appointment of the CBI Director. It remains to be seen whether Rahul goes for that also or nominates Venugopal for that too!
However, assembly elections are being held in two states and by-elections are also being held on 47 assembly and two Lok Sabha seats in 14 states. On Wednesday, Rahul went to hold an election rally in Maharashtra. Before that, he held two rallies in the last 15 days and that too in Wayanad, Kerala, where his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is contesting the Lok Sabha by-election. During these 15 days, he went to his constituency Rae Bareli for a few hours one day, where he had to participate in a government program as an MP. His opponents say that after being elected MP from Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi has been in his constituency for about 10 hours in the last five months. Since Congress leaders have not denied this fact, it must be assumed that they spent 10 hours in their constituency in five months.
Think, Rahul Gandhi started the election campaign so late in a state like Maharashtra and has not yet gone to campaign in Jharkhand. This is the situation when just last month we lost in Haryana and lost badly in Jammu and Kashmir. Still, instead of taking to the streets, holding election meetings, rallies and road shows to revive the Congress and boost the morale of the workers, who knows what they are doing? In the last 15 days, one day he had gone to the potters’ colony in Delhi and the other day he shared a video of him doing whitewashing work with laborers at his official residence. And yes, Rahul Gandhi has written an article in the English newspaper ‘Indian Express’ on Wednesday.
