What solution in the Middle East?

The non-implementation of the two-state solution and the changing dynamics of the world are at the root of the new situation in the Middle East. Both sides now see war as the only solution. Now whatever the consequences of this, The world should be prepared for that.

The war in the Middle East has gone beyond the Israel-Palestine border and has taken a regional form. There is deep concern in the world due to this. Concern is being expressed in various countries including India about the possible economic and other international consequences of the situation developing there. But is there any solution to this problem? At the root of the issue is the question of the Palestinian nation. When there was a uni-polar world, the Oslo Accords were signed between Israel and the Palestinians’ representative organization – PLO, under the patronage of America and the mediation of Norway, in which the two-state solution was accepted by both the parties. This meant that the Palestinians would have their own independent state and Israel and the new Palestinian state would exist side by side. If this solution had been realized, the roots of unrest and war in West Asia would have ended. But after signing the agreement, Israel continued to refuse to implement it. On the other hand, America and its fellow western countries never got serious about implementing it. As a result, this wound has now become a canker.

Meanwhile, the equations of the world have changed. Now the international community or world powers no longer means just America and its partner countries. The rise of China and the resurgence of Russia have changed the equations in various regions of the world, including the Middle East. The non-implementation of the two-state solution and the changed dynamics of the world lie at the root of the new situation in the Middle East – which is undeniably dangerous. It is clear that in the last one year (since the beginning of the current war), Western countries have appeared more as supporters of Israel than as impartial mediators. In such a situation, the chances of their intervention being effective in stopping the war are very less. The strength of the newly emerged powers is not yet sufficient to get the solution done as per their wish. In such a situation, both sides are beginning to see war as the only solution. Now the world should be prepared for whatever its consequences may be.
