When asked for census, the committee was dissolved

It has been feeling for some time now and there was news from the government’s sources that the census could be done soon. But now once again questions are being raised on this. Although it is possible that the government may take a decision on this this month, but before that there is news that when the standing committee of the Statistics Department raised questions on the delay in the census and inquired about it, the committee itself was dissolved. There was a 14-member standing committee of the Statistics Department, whose chairman was the well-known economist Pranab Sen. This committee has been dissolved without giving any reason.

Pranab Sen has said that no member was informed about why the committee is being dissolved. Geeta Singh Rathore, Director General of National Sample Survey Department (NSSO), issued a letter and the committee was dissolved. It is being told that the members of the committee had questioned the delay in the census and demanded that the census be conducted as soon as possible. Note that the census, which is conducted every 10 years, was to be conducted in 2021, but it was postponed in 2020 due to the Corona epidemic. After that, many political activities continued to take place during Corona and after the end of Corona, elections kept happening but the census did not take place. Till now, policy decisions for public welfare are being made on the basis of the data of the 2011 census. It is being said that the census will be announced soon, but it is probably getting delayed due to the issue of caste count.
