Yogi is making law for Prashant Kumar!

It is a big question that what is the motive of the state government behind making the rules for the appointment of Director General of Police i.e. DGP in Uttar Pradesh? Is Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath preparing to make 1991 batch IPS officer Prashant Kumar, who is currently working as acting DG, as full-time DG? There is also a question whether Prashant Kumar is going to get the fixed tenure of two years? It is noteworthy that for a long time the Uttar Pradesh government has not appointed a full-time DGP. The work is done by an acting DGP and when one acting DG retires, another one is appointed.

In fact, according to the order of the Supreme Court, the approval of the Union Public Service Commission i.e. UPSC is required for the appointment of a full-time DG. The state government has to send the names of three senior IPS officers and UPSC decides who among these three will become DGP. It is believed that to avoid this process, the Yogi government first used the acting DG and now new rules are being made, by which the state government itself will appoint the DG. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Punjab have made rules as per the Supreme Court order and make their own appointments. It is being told that in Uttar Pradesh, there will be a committee headed by a retired judge of the High Court, in which there will also be a representative of UPSC and it will decide a name in the panel given by the state government. Yogi Adityanath has approved the making of rules by holding a cabinet meeting. Informed sources say that Yogi feels that the Center will interfere in the appointment through UPSC, whereas he wants to make an officer of his choice as DG. That’s why he has chosen this path.
