Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People: A Call to Restore Hope and Faith

He said that the terrorist attacks and hostage taking of people by Hamas on October 7 cannot be justified in any way. “The collective punishment of the Palestinian people cannot be justified either.”

Gaza has been reduced to a pile of destruction since the Israeli army attacked it last year. More than 43,000 Palestinians were killed, most of them women and children.

United Nations Deputy Chief of Staff Amina Mohammed, speaking on behalf of the Secretary-General, expressed deep concern over the growing humanitarian crisis and alarming situation in the Gaza Strip.

The top UN official stressed that immediate humanitarian aid must be provided to the millions of desperate and needy people in the Gaza Strip.

“I appeal for full support for life-saving humanitarian relief for the Palestinian people, particularly through the work of UNRWA, which is an irreplaceable lifeline for millions of Palestinians.”

Reiterating his call for the immediate implementation of a cease-fire and the unconditional release of all hostages, he said an end to the illegal occupation of Palestinian territory was needed, which had also been confirmed by the International Court of Justice and the United Nations General Assembly. .

According to Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, there is a need to move towards a two-state solution in line with international law and UN resolutions, and Israel and Palestine must live together in peace and security with Jerusalem as their capital.

He assured that the United Nations stands in solidarity with us in ensuring the Palestinian people’s right to peace, security and dignity.

Restore trust

Philemon Young, President of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, emphasized the importance of efforts to restore hope and confidence among the Palestinian people – hope for a better future and confidence in the UN and its resolutions.

According to him, this future can be shaped by the implementation of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the immediate release of all hostages and negotiations towards a long-term peace.

The head of the General Assembly called on the international community to take strong, just steps to find a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“A solution that is based on international law, the UN Charter and relevant UN resolutions.”

The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in 1977 declaring November 29 every year as International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

The war has been going on for 400 days

Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, said in his speech that this year the day comes at a time when the common people of Gaza have been suffering for more than 400 days of genocidal war.

He said thousands of civilians, most of whom were children, women and the elderly, had lost their lives in this violent conflict.

According to them, the Israeli military, the occupying power, has deliberately and systematically targeted civilians, with the intention of displacing its people and confiscating their land and assets.

Palestinian observers said it is now clear to the whole world that the root cause of the lack of security and stability in the Middle East is illegal occupation, which must be removed from the territory of a Palestinian state.
