DRC Crisis: Refugees were forced to escape with the risk of his life

“We have reached our full potential,” Ayaki, director of the UN Refugee Organization (UNHCR), told reporters in Geneva.

She shared the story of a mother, which was so compelled that she swims 100 meters wide between her three young children, DRC and Burundi.

He said that he saw a pundar hugged on a plastic sheet. She was actually a mother who put her children and belongings into plastic and floated them. The journey was extremely dangerous and he was told that the river also contains crocodiles and hippopotamus horses.

Ayaki Ito said that the crisis was not only in danger of life, but also demanding immediate cooperation and humanitarian assistance from the world community.

Facing the relief system crisis

According to UNHCR data, more than 71 thousand people have arrived in Burundi since January 2021 to avoid the ongoing violence in the eastern region of the DRC.

More than 12,000 people have been transferred to the Museni refugee camp, while the rest are living with the local population of the border areas.

The director Ito warned that “the supply of food items has already been half, and if money assistance is not available immediately, in late June, existing food items will also end.”

However, the problem is not just about food. The temporary camps set up in the field are submerged in the water as the monsoon begins.

Relief parties are afraid that the diseases may be filled quickly soon.

Ito said, “School, clinics and clean -up primary measures are either not present or fully understood.”

He also said that the UN agency and women and adolescent girls did not leave the prestigious kites (Stru Tusrub’s hygiene kit), which deprived of the cleanliness of about 4,000 women and girls.

The impact of money and action

The agency fights with money and cutting – UNHCR, has also been badly affected by the family’s efforts to reunite. It is very difficult to find separate children and meet their families.

Director Ito said, “Balance is almost impossible to balance. The soil parties are working with the whole power with emergency, meeting the needs of the present refugees, preparing for the needy people in the future, and on the other hand they are being asked to restrict their work due to lack of funds.”

He said that there is no safe place for children and women in the main refugee region, where they can get services or support each other.

In the DRC, Rwanda-backed M23 M23 is repeatedly coming between the two countries due to the dire situation between the rebel and the government forces.

“About half of the new refugees recorded last week were registered in Burundi,” said Ito, “Ito said.”

He also said that the Kongal refugees are among the most sensitive and risky refugees in the world.

The UN agency has made it clear that despite the lack of assets and the challenges of operation, life safety assistance and security services remain their priority.
