Ethiopia: Due to spending money, it is mandatory to stop food assistance

UN country director Jleton Millsich warns that 1 million millions of people in Ethiopia are facing the risk of not getting food and nutrition support, while they are already facing a very sensitive situation.

In view of this, the WFP has called for the provision of assistance fund immediately.

A senior WFP official told reporters in Geneva through a video link that billions of people in Ethiopia were victims of food insecurity. There are 1 million people who have been displaced due to violent conflict and extreme climate incidents. Malnutrition rates are worrying at high levels.

More than 5 million pregnant, breastfeeding women and young children need to be treated in Ethiopia. In Somali, Oromia, Afar and Tigrar regions, the problem of dramatics in children has exceeded 15 percent limit, which was fixed for emergency conditions.

The WFP plans to provide life -efficient nutrition support to 2 million women and children in 2021, but it has been decided to reduce relief efforts due to only 5 percent of the previous year.

Country Director Jleton Millisich said that the supply of nutritious diets is being completed and because we are off these programs. We hope that something will happen soon, but no assistance has been found at present.

Supply

Within the first three months of this year, the UN agency confirmed food and nutrition support for more than 3 million people. There are seven and a half million babies and pregnant and breastfeeding women.

However, due to the reduction of financial support, the UN agency has reduced food supply to the weak community. In the last 18 months, only 60 percent of the eight million refugees are being provided.

In the last 9 months, about 80 percent of the displaced people and people fought against food insecurity have been provided to about 80 percent of rations.

It is extremely challenging for humanitarian assistance workers because of the fight in the Ethiopian Amera region, which disrupts relief propaganda and threatens to assist five million people. It has been said that relief workers are at risk of protection and it has affected support efforts.

Stress

According to the news medium, the war in the country’s Oromia region continues and tensions are also increasing in the tiger, where about five million people were killed between the rebel party and the government security forces from 2021 to 2022.

Despite the challenges of crisis in financial support and security situations, WFP provides 4.70 million people daily school diets every month.

At the same time, two lakh people have been tried to provide previous warning and cash assistance to protect the livelihood of local people in the faces of drought in Oromia, Somali and southern regions.

This year, the WFP will need about $ 22 million from September to achieve the goal of providing assistance to 722 million people.
