UN spokesman Stepan Duzarick said at a regular press conference at the headquarters in New York that more than 20,000 people were displaced due to the disaster in Pakistan.

According to the OCHA, the affected people need immediate shelter, medical assistance, cash, clean -cleaning kit, clean drinking water and education.

Especially the need for protection and cooperation of women and girls has been stated.

The spokesman said the relief and rescue activities in the flood damaged areas are led by the local administration, where the UN and the local partners are cooperating.

Stepan Duzarik said on the weekend, UN emergency relief coordinator Tom Flatcher has issued millions of dollars from the regional funds to accelerate the relief activities.

According to official data, the rainy season, which started on June 2, has caused widespread destruction in Pakistan.

Local officials say 795 people have died at this time and more than a thousand people were injured.
