The total population of the Gaza Strip is 2.3 million, of which about 80 percent have been forcibly displaced by ongoing Israeli military actions over the past year.
Displaced people have to live in very difficult conditions in dilapidated tents in makeshift camps with limited food, water and other essentials.
The United Nations Humanitarian Office said this after assessing the situation in Deir al-Balah and Khan Yunis.
There is also a risk of flooding and spread of disease near camps or makeshift medical centers set up for the displaced during the winter season.
Strictness in aid delivery
The UN office said that so far in September, 90 percent of requests for humanitarian aid to move into northern and southern Gaza have been rejected or blocked.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, 103 Palestinians died between September 22-26. 41,000 people have been killed so far in the Israeli operation that began after Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7.
The Israeli army says no Israeli soldiers were killed during the operation from September 23 to Friday. A total of 346 Israeli soldiers have so far been killed in Gaza or near the Israeli border.
A Security Council meeting is being held in New York on Friday, where the humanitarian situation in Gaza will be discussed.
Worrying situation on the west coast
In a press briefing, UN Secretary-General’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said there had been an increase in Palestinian movement restrictions in the occupied West Bank.
He said this had a profound impact on Palestinians, making it difficult to access livelihoods and essential services in the West Bank. The situation went from bad to worse for the local Palestinian population, who already faced difficult conditions.
The violence still continues and 11 Palestinians, including two children, were killed in the West Bank between September 17 and 23.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), from October 7, 2023 to July 30, 2024, there were 523 attacks on healthcare facilities, including force, detention, searches by military forces, road blockades.
