According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Emergency Assistance, Israeli authorities are rejecting UN-led requests to provide critical aid to the Palestinian people.
As many as 22 missions were planned to be carried out as part of the humanitarian aid operation in Gaza on Sunday, but only seven received permission.
Six requests were rejected outright, five were blocked and four were suspended due to security and operational challenges.
Meanwhile, violent clashes continue in Gaza and new orders are being issued to evacuate people already displaced.
“Civilians must be protected, whether they stay or go,” the UN office said. People fleeing war must be allowed safe passage, and it must be possible for them to return voluntarily if circumstances permit.”
Displaced again
On Sunday, the Israeli military ordered the evacuation of residents of Al Mufti, a neighborhood in Al Nusrat, central Gaza. According to UN partners, more than 4,000 people have been affected by the order.
Areas where local people have been asked to leave include two centers run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). There are also three medical care centers, two water distribution centers and two temporary education sites.
OCHA said partner agencies saw people moving from the area to other areas, including Deir al-Balah.
According to the results of the survey of about 2500 families, the displaced citizens of Gaza are suffering from shortage of food, water, sanitation and other basic needs.
More than two-thirds said they had been forced to move at least once in the past 60 days.
Visit of senior officials
Meanwhile, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Muhannad Hadi, visited a factory in the south that supplies furniture for temporary education centers in the Gaza Strip.
After 15 months of war, fewer than 20 percent of Gaza’s school-age children have no access to education.
On Sunday, resident coordinator Hadi visited a church where more than 400 displaced Palestinians have taken refuge. He emphasized that “it reiterates that churches, mosques, civil and all basic establishments must be protected.”
“They can be saved only by ending this war, by an armistice.”
According to him, the displaced youth of Gaza deserve to return to their homes. The UN coordinator said the children here have hope for the future and without education and proper health care they will not have a bright future.
