Gaza at 'critical juncture', calls for ceasefire

Farhan Haque, the UN chief’s deputy spokesman, told a regular news conference at headquarters in New York on Friday that Antonio Guterres does not comment on such incidents.

But they expressed interest in finding an immediate cease-fire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, and the unhindered access of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The situation in northern Gaza continues to be dire.

Farhan Haque, citing information from the Humanitarian Aid Coordination Agency-OCHA, said the situation is becoming dire and dangerous for ordinary people in northern Gaza, and families there are trying to survive under heavy Israeli bombardment.

UNRWA, the United Nations aid agency for Palestinian refugees, confirmed a third Israeli attack on its facilities last week, including an Israeli attack on a school in Jabalia that resulted in multiple casualties, according to a deputy spokesman.

OCHA has warned that the lack of relief supplies is causing life-threatening consequences for people in the Jabaliya refugee camp.

The United Nations agency on Friday reiterated its request to the Israeli authorities to rescue some people buried under the rubble.

Farhan Haque said that in previous incidents, OCHA relief teams were allowed to carry out rescue operations too late, resulting in only dead bodies being pulled out, meaning that no person could be rescued from the wreckage.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the United Nations said that the United Nations and its partner organizations are ready to provide water, food, etc.

Meanwhile, the World Food Program-WFP has been able to reach only 100,000 people due to constraints due to the ongoing war in the north.

According to the UN agency, most of Gaza’s total population of 2.3 million people are displaced.
