Navi Pillay, head of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry for East Jerusalem and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including Israel, told reporters that the Israeli military had besieged hospitals, causing Gaza’s health system to collapse.
The Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Israeli attack on an ambulance in January this year found that the Israeli army’s 162nd Division was responsible and could be classified as a war crime. All seven people in the car were killed in the attack.
According to the report, Israeli and Palestinian armed groups are responsible for torture, sexual and gender-based violence.
The Commission of Inquiry also reported to the General Assembly Committee on the treatment of hostages and sexual and gender-based violence during the attack on Israel on 7 October 2023.
Last year, these attacks by Hamas and other extremist groups in Israel killed more than 1,000 people and took more than 250 hostages.
According to the report, Palestinian armed groups have deliberately mistreated Israeli and foreign hostages and these acts can be classified as war crimes and crimes against humanity.
At the same time, Palestinian prisoners are also being mistreated by Israeli administrative agencies, including torture.
‘Terrorist’ factory
Israel continues to attack Gaza by air, land and sea, causing large numbers of civilian casualties. They are being forced to migrate and civil structures are being destroyed.
The commission of inquiry said children are not terrorists, but thousands of children have lost their lives in southern Israel and everything that has happened since.
The Commission expressed its dismay that the current violent conflict in Gaza is an Israeli factory of terror, with no end in sight.
According to the commission, this is unprecedented in the decades of violent conflict that has lasted for such a long time.
Navi Pillay expressed outrage over the current situation in Gaza, saying that a ceasefire should be implemented as soon as possible, keeping humanity at the forefront.
Request help route
Meanwhile, the UN humanitarian office appealed to the Israeli authorities to provide routes for humanitarian aid amid ongoing military operations in Jabalia, Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza.
The head of the United Nations expressed deep anger at the Israeli airstrikes in Beit Lahiya on Tuesday, in which at least 90 Palestinians were reported killed or missing. Among them are about 25 children.
Secretary-General Guterres said the tragic loss of life reaffirms the profound impact of the violent conflict in Gaza. It should be noted that a terrible war is going on in the northern part of Gaza.
The UN chief condemned the mass casualties and displacement of people in Gaza and reminded all warring parties of their obligations under international law.
He noted that the safety of humanitarian and aid workers on the front lines, who are engaged in providing life-saving assistance to the poor, must be ensured. The interruption of their work deepens the suffering of ordinary citizens and hence it is important to continue the flow of aid uninterruptedly.
