Geneva: Global discussion is intense for plastic pollution agreement

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) has warned that plastic waste will be three times if there is no legally compulsory agreement at the international level by 20600. It will harm the health and environment of the people.

This discussion was the result of the Historical Tihasik decision adopted in 2022, where Member States, especially marine pollution, which were legally obliged, especially to terminate plastic pollution from marine pollution, decided to finalize a global agreement within two years.

Global action is necessary

The level of plastic problems is very large. It exists in a wide range of products used in everyday life.

For example, hot and cold materials, (straw) cups, spoons, bags and beauty accessories to drink plastic tubes, after all once used, are thrown directly into the sea or dustbins, where heavy garbage is collected from them.

Supporters of the agreement believe that the global agreement proposed to deal with plastic pollution may be as big as the Paris Climate Agreement of 20.

At the same time, he also said that the Patro-country is being pressured to weaken the deal because their crude oil and natural gas industry provide raw material for plastic production.

UNEP Executive Director Inzer Anderson said, “We simply cannot get out of the plastic pollution crisis through cycling. Our notice needs a systemic change to go to the economy.”

Will be emphasized on the solution

The target is to include the entire life cycle of plastic (from design to settlement from design), so that “notifications are promoted and plastic can be prevented from reaching the environment.”

This 10 -day conversation is running from the UN office on August 5 to 14, where representatives of 179 countries, more than 1900 supervisors, scientists, environmentalists and industry are participating.

At this time, plastic zer-plastic options and low polluting measures will also be kept in front.

Financial loss

Before the start of the discussion, the iconic medical journal The Lancet warns that plastic materials, every stage of human life and the entire life cycle of plastic spread serious diseases.

According to this journal, newborns and young children are especially insecure.

There is a serious, growing and less marked threat for plastic, human and environmental health, which causes more than $ 1.5 trillion economic damage per year.

Jyoti Mathur-Philip, Executive Secretary of the International International Dialogue Committee (Inc.) is leading the conversation. He said that in 2021, the population of the world has only used more than 5 million plastic, of which Tk 1 crore will be converted to 1 lakh tonnes of waste.

It is estimated that plastic leakage in the environment by 2040 will increase by 50 percent and the total damage caused by plastic pollution between 2016 and 2040 can reach $ 281 trillion.

There have been discussions five times for plastic agreements so far.
