Anusha Bhanganu won first place in essay writing. Dr. Yogita Modi got first position in Poetry and (Ms.) Apoorva Srivastava got first position in Song/Bhajan.
Ian Phillips, Director of the News and Media Division of the United Nations Department of Global Communication, while speaking at the event highlighted the importance of Hindi.
Ian Phillips says that Hindi’s global reach is truly amazing. “More than 600 million people worldwide make Hindi the third most spoken language in the world. Hindi was first spoken in the United Nations General Assembly in 1949.”
He said that Bollywood, the world’s largest film industry, has played a tremendous role in spreading Hindi and Indian culture across the world.
Celebrating the importance of Hindi
Ambassador P Harish, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, presided over the event and highlighted the heritage and importance of Hindi.
He said, “It is a great honor for me to speak on Hindi Divas. This day is a celebration of the Hindi language and its important role in our national life.”
Indian Ambassador P Harish said that this year’s Hindi Day has become more important in this context as it is the official language of India and the 75th year of the adoption of Hindi as the official language.
“And today we are highlighting the importance of Hindi at the United Nations.”
In this event, the ambassadors of many countries including Guyana, Suriname, Nepal highlighted the use and importance of Hindi in many countries. Prizes were also distributed among the winners.
