State government Matching grant Under the program, 8 thousand 400 initiatives have been provided with LOAN facility with female leadership since the 202222.
25 -year -old Nitya, since becoming a mother, has been interested in contributing to the income of the family, to give her two young children a better life.
However, opportunities for women have been confined to the women of their beautiful villages for centuries of Tiruchirapalli district in Tamil Nadu. “I wanted to work for employment but couldn’t leave my children to town,” she said.
Today, Nitya is running a successful mason in her village. This decision of his life came when he learned about the masonry training program at a new community skill school established near his self -halp group nearby.
She entered the 20 -day training course, where she met three more women who were interested in improving their future.
Three women started partnerships together and soon got their first big deal of local panchayat (Village Paratad) to form a sign board of 1.5 million ($ 18,300) 6005.
Today, Nitya and her partner operates a complete construction initiative, earning about one thousand ($ 12.50) per day. He has appointed three more women in his village.
“I never thought I would be able to earn so much after training,” Nitya said with pride.
Help the World Bank
State government Wazhhu Kattuvam -VKP (Let’s look live and see) With the effort of the program, there is a small example of a change in Tamil Nadu.
The World Bank Tamil Nadu Rural Change Project is making efforts to promote entrepreneurs by creating building skills. Also, employment is being created in rural areas to facilitate the availability of money for small businesses.
Under this project, two and a half thousand community skills schools were established in 2019. Through these schools, more than 50 thousand youths have been trained to train about 75 initiatives. Of these, 655 percent of women are female.
These schools provide economic, accessible vocational training, especially women’s needs. These training centers are operated by successful local business, where business owners and community experts offer their practical training.
Many graduates of these skills programs have succeeded in starting their own business. Since the start of the project, about 28 thousand 700 new initiatives have started across the state.
Interestingly, many women have adopted a male dominated business like the construction of LED bulbs for the sale of the local market.
Banu Priya, who once worked as a peasant worker, said he only worked for some time, “Instead of always looking for work, I can earn income from home now. Now my income is stable and work is easy.”

The support of emerging female entrepreneurs
However, skill development is the only part of the equation. Many women like Nitia have skills, but they often have difficulty in increasing the capital needed to start or increase business.
If you take the example of Johnki Shivangai, he wanted to extend his small hardware store near his house in Kolngudi village in the district. He took the loans from self -help groups and promised his jewelry to set up his shop.
Now they showed the opportunity to expand their business, as they increase the demand for electrical products, but they did not know how to get loan from the bank.
Here they have received support from the Matching Grants Program Project. Through this, Johnki was given 5 percent grants, which he was able to get a loans from a financial institution by showing him bail.
The project introduced him to a community facility, a living. Rosie evaluated their commercial capacity and took them to the One Stop Facility Center – Matthew Sirgugal Thojil Maiam, where qualified professionals helped to complete the documents needed for their bank loans and develop marketing strategy.
Janaki explained, “The support of the Rosie and One Stop Facility Center was invaluable. He not only helped me take Loans, but also taught me a better way to keep the digital payment system and bookkeeping.”
“My profit has increased 40 percent, and I have also appointed another woman to meet the growing demand.
The matching grant program has enabled 8 thousand 400 women -led initiatives in Tamil Nadu since 2022, Rs 267 crore ($ 3.19 crore) LOAN.

Employment opportunity
The project has so far supported more than one million initiatives in rural areas.
The CEO of the project, S Dawadarsini, said, “Our goal is not only to reduce poverty, but also promote permanent prosperity in rural areas.
The success of the project has inspired the Tamil Nadu government to expand this model. States like Bihar and Sikkim have sent their team to Tamil Nadu to recognize the power of these initiatives, to learn lessons from them.
“This project is not just about development or financial support,” said Samik Sundar Das, the World Bank, who led the project. This is about bringing permanent economic change, which will promote future generations through employment. ”
