India: Shelids, new forums for women's political role

The ‘Shelids’ initiative has become more relevant in the background of the Women’s Reservation Act, which was passed in 2021, under which 5% of the seats for women are preserved in the Lok Sabha and the State Legislative Assembly.

However, at present, the participation of women in the 18th Lok Sabha is only 14%, which clear the difference in this presentation.

In this national situation, the main goal of this program is to inspire women for the leadership of the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and provide them with their necessary assistance and resources.

The workshop participated in the elected representatives of the administrative services from all over the country and the female elected female leaders, elected representatives and women.

This year, more than 260 applications have been obtained from 22 states for workshop – which is more than twice the first version held in February 2024.

After the strict selection process, 36 female participants, including elected representatives, panchayat chiefs, city councilors and youth social workers were selected.

All these participants are participating in the two -day interaction session, including discussions with MPS and policy experts, promoting elections, understanding the structure of the administration, connection with the media and discussion with the Manthan Chain.

Norwegian Ambassador Milin Stanner also participated in the program. They said, Norway is happy to support these nationalities, which empower female leaders and promotes inclusive administration. Programs like Shillad help to bring about ground changes. “

Kanta Singh, a national representative of the UN women of India, said, “To realize the views of advanced India, women need to participate in politics. It gives a direction to the principles of the eyes of women and the aspirations of all citizens.”
